Today for Family Home Evening (FHE) we learned how to start a fire and also how to put one out!First we gathered up kindling and small sticks and tried using a flint stick to light a fire:
Lizzy’s turn to try out the flint sticks:
We cheated a bit and got a fire going:
Time to cook up some hot dogs over the fire:
We have preciously learned how to use a regular fire extinguisher but mom got this easy use spray can to keep in the house so we can put out fires super fast and easy:
We easily put out the fire and there is still plenty of spray left in the can for future use (hopefully we wont need it!).

Learning how to mow the lawn is another good life skill:
It’s a little harder than it looks!
Rachel is allergic to grass (at least she was when she was little) so this one for Lizzy:
For Family Home Evenings (FHE) Mom and Dad have been doing life skills training. So far we have learned how to turn off the main water line; how to use the electrical box; how to operate a power drill and driver and how to ride the city bus. Today we learned how to change the oil and check/fill fluids in the car:
First step is gathering all of the supplies.Next step is driving the car up on to the rampsChecking out the underside of the car.Locating the oil pan.Using the proper tools. She did it!
Time to remove the panel:
Luna checking on Lizzy.Almost done under here.Final steps.
Now on to filling the oil and fluid checks. The missionaries stopped by when we were at this point:
Very good, nice and steady.Rachel’s turn.Wow this sure takes a lot of oil!
For the Saturday morning session we went over to the Lowry’s house. We are so happy to be able to continue this tradition with their family. The Sunday afternoon session has another tradition of “spa treatments” as we watch the last session of conference together with just our family. Mom braided Lizzy’s hair:
And then Rachel’s hair:
The girls finger waved Mom’s hair:
This year the girls really gave Dad a “make-over”. It started with Rachel offering Dad back cracking relief:
There has been no proper training for this procedure but he is a willing participant.
While Rachel was doing that Lizzy was preparing the spa treatments:
That’s a lot of applications!
Starting with the lip treatments:
On to the face scrub:
It was not really coming off….
Still scrubbing. . .
Dad is enjoying the next face treatment as evidenced by his smile:
A chocolate rub next (antioxidants of course):
A finishing spray of course:
Still trying to remove the orange scrub from the other treatment:
Did he agree to make-up?
He is brave:
Hair curlers and mascara and he’s still smiling! An eyelash curler!!!
Finally waxing the legs!!
That was crazy fun for the girls and apparently fun for Dad too. Mom will have nothing to do with any of it!
